Message: Mike and I have been friends for about 20 years and were roommates through two houses, I suppose you could say we were best friends for a period of time in our early 20s. And although we didn't always get along, the good times faaaar outweighed the bad. Mike influenced me in significant ways that would change the course of my life. He taught me appreciation, which is a trait humans severely lack - it has served me well through the years and I do my best to teach others the value of appreciation and lead by example. Mike taught me how to treat servers when we went out, how to be a generous tipper, and most importantly, how to put myself in others' shoes. He turned me on to music I'd never considered or even heard of, and showed me how to appreciate the work put into it. We went to dozens of concerts together and he always had a hook-up to get amazing seats, making the experience unforgettable. When we lived on Londonderry, I'd get home from work and Mike would be sitting at the kitchen table, waiting for me with an unopened bottle of Crown, and we'd sit there and read the week's new comics in virtual silence, except for the cheers of the occasional drink; when we were done, we'd discuss what we just read and make jokes and laugh our asses off. So many years, so many good times. Mike wasn't perfect, but neither are any of us as we struggle day to day. But I suspect he struggled more than the rest of us; internally he was hurting and was a slave to his own mind, although did his best to mask it. He was always uncomfortable in this world and perfectly happy in solitude, which was both admirable and somewhat annoying, lol. I regret our years apart, and wish I would've been there more for him at the end, and it will haunt me forever, as regret does. But I truly feel Mikey is in a better place, finally relaxed and at peace.
