Obituary for George K Werner

George K  Werner
George K. Werner, age 94, died Sunday, March18, 2018 at the TowneHouse Retirement Community in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He was born July 19, 1923 in Richmond, Indiana, to Karl George and Marie Moessner Werner and was raised by guardians George and Ella Behring Wagner. George served with the U.S. Army in England during World War II. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Richmond, Indiana. He graduated from Richmond High School and Indiana State Teachers’ College. He worked as a teacher in California for two years and then began his career as an accountant and controller with Perfect Circle in Indiana and Dana Corporation in Ohio. His career included three years in Paris, France for a Dana subsidiary. He retired from Dana in 1981 and continued to reside in Sylvania until 2017.

In his retirement he volunteered at the Senior Center, helping people learn computer skills. Other volunteer efforts included United Way and Olivet Lutheran Church. George enjoyed golf and was an active member of Highland Meadows Golf Club. He also enjoyed travel and visited many countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and the South Pacific.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Willadene Werner, son Scott (John Lippe) Werner, daughter Susan (Kenneth) Terfler, granddaughters Katherine (Randall) Williams and Jane (Andrew) Gibson, great-grandchildren Charlotte Gibson and Ryan Gibson, sister Marilyn (John) Adkins, brothers William (Venna) Werner and Ott (Norma) Werner, sisters-in-law Colleen Blickwedel Werner and Ruth Ann Kanke Werner Carter and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and guardians; brothers Frederick, Walter, Henry and Robert Werner; and sisters-in-law Mary Jane, Barbara and Janet Werner.
