Obituary for Joseph M Chandler
Joseph Maurice Chandler (Joe), age 86, of Fort Wayne, IN, passed away on February 18, 2018 in Indianapolis, IN of natural causes.
Joe was born in Zanesville, IN, on August 25, 1931. He graduated from South Side High School in Fort Wayne, Class of ’49. He continued with his education to receive a Bachelor of Arts from Ball State Teachers College in 1956 and his Masters degree from Ball State in 1962. Joe was married to Marlene Joyce Clark on February 14,1953; they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Joe began his professional career teaching high school Industrial Arts in New Castle, IN where he also coached JV basketball. He transitioned in his career to International Harvester in 1963 where he was Assistant Industrial Relations Manager. However, his love of teaching brought him back to the classroom in 1967 when he took a position with Indiana University’s Division of General and Technical Studies (DGTS), and he stayed in the college classroom teaching organizational leadership until he retired from Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne in 1994. He was a Veteran of the United States Air force and served during the Korean War.
Joe is survived by his wife Marlene; children Tracy (Kristen), Scott (Marien) and Darcy Milner; his sister Elizabeth Richter, his seven grandchildren, and other family and friends.
The memorial service will be held on March 10th at FairHaven Funeral Home, 6557 N. Clinton, Fort Wayne, IN. Visitation will be held from 12 pm to 2:00pm with the memorial service beginning at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be made to the Joseph and Marlene Chandler Scholarship fund at the IPFW Department of Organizational Leadership.
