Obituary for Vern Leroy Miller

Vern Leroy Miller, 76, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020 in Fort Wayne. He was born July 9, 1944 in Fort Wayne to the late Charles Leroy Miller and Helen Katherine Miller (Preston). He attended Bloomingdale Elementary School & then North Side High School graduating in 1962. Vern started working at Hefner Chevrolet at the age 15, then Johnnie's on the North Side campus. He went to school & became a X-ray technician at Parkview before finding the U.A.W. & becoming a 37 year lifer for Harvester. It was there he built Scouts, semis, & school busses, he loved them all. During the closing of Harvester he returned to Parkview for a few years, then returned to Navistar in Springfield, OH. Vern served his country as a member of the US Army Reserves. He had a love for motorsports that grew from his drag racing experiences, having owned several 57’s. Vern is survived by his wife, Nancy Miller (Lytle) of Fort Wayne; and sons, Nicholas Miller and Anthony Miller. He was also preceded in death by his half-brother, Robert "Bob" Murphy. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or Fort Wayne Turners.
