Obituary for Timothy D. Ellert

Timothy D. Ellert, 64, passed away November 26, 2020 at his home in Fort Wayne. He is already sorely missed by friends and family, including his wife of 33 years, Lisa Ellert, and his children Aimee, Philip, Nathan and Korinne. Tim was born in Garrett, Indiana in 1956 to the late Philip and Margaret Ellert. After graduating from DeKalb High School, he worked as a tool and die maker before joining the US Postal Service. Many people counted on him for answers to the most obscure questions because Tim was a man who always read the directions, knew the facts and understood the rules. He was a quintessential employee there for more than 40 years. Tim had three children from his first marriage; Aimee, Philip and Jeremy (deceased). Aimee describes her dad as a quiet man who made her feel loved with a strong faith that she admired. Tim and Lisa (Simon) were married in September of 1986. Together they had two children, Nathan and Korinne. Tim was a loving and devoted father. He was at every school event, supporting his kids in anything they did. He loved spending time with his family, often making breakfast for everyone, including his famous French toast and Mickey Mouse pancakes. He was extremely proud of his family and encouraged them to be their best while completely loving and accepting them for who they are. Tim knew how to repair almost anything, earning him his family nickname of Mr. Fixit. He loved to build things and figure out how everything worked. His generosity and know-how was evident as he was always ready to lend a hand, helping countless friends and neighbors. He was a humble and faithful volunteer at St. Jude Catholic Church where he was a member for several years. Tim retired from the USPS, but that didn’t slow him down. An avid endurance cyclist, he completed his first “century ride” (100 miles) on his 60th birthday. Retirement gave him the time to read, which he did voraciously. He had a love of science, discovery, history and astronomy. He loved to share his knowledge with others, especially his family. Tim is survived by his wife Lisa Ellert of Fort Wayne; children, Aimee (Nicholas) Wentworth of Angola, IN, Philip (Sirena) Ellert of Columbia City, IN, Nathan Ellert of Indianapolis, IN, and Korinne Ellert of Bloomington, IN; five grandchildren; siblings, Betty (Ron) Mcintosh of Columbus, IN, Tom (Diana) Ellert of Waterloo, IN, Patty Wurst of Grants Pass, OR, Ted Ellert of Waterloo, IN, Debbie (Jerry) Parks of Carbondale, IN. Timothy was preceded in death by his parents and son, Jeremy Ellert. Mass of Christian Burial is 11:00 am, Monday, December 7, 2020 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 2130 Pemberton Dr., with calling two hours prior beginning at 9:00 am.
