Obituary for Thomas Joseph Nebel Jr.

Thomas Joseph “Tommy” Nebel, Jr., 68, of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2022
surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 25,1953 at the US Naval Hospital in San Diego,
California, to loving parents Thomas Sr. and Dorothy (McFarland).
Tommy had fond memories of growing up in the Highbridge section of Bronx, NY and was proud of his
Irish heritage. Tommy graduated from Alfred State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He
later decided to change his path and worked with North American Van Lines as a cross country truck
driver for many years then used his skills of the road to become an Instructor for North American,
bestowing his knowledge on many.
Tom was an avid reader, he enjoyed boating, fishing, target shooting, and his model trains. Tom was a
handyman and caretaker for his neighbors, always keeping a watchful eye on his neighborhood and
willing to lend a hand whenever one was needed. If you knew Tommy, you know that he was extremely
patriotic and was a proud supporter of the Wounded Warriors Project. Tom was very proud of his only
nephew Matthew, who, like Tom, loves to tinker and fix things. Tom is survived by his brother, Jim
(Janette) Nebel; nephew, Matthew; aunt Helen McFarland; along with many cousins. Tommy was
preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Dorothy; uncle James McFarland, uncle and aunt Charlie
and Pat Nebel and Larry and Virginia (McFarland) Judge. Tom will truly be missed by his family and
friends.
The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, April 7, 2022 between the hours of 4-7 P.M. at
FairHaven Funeral Home, 6557 N. Clinton Street, Ft. Wayne, IN 46825. Following calling hours at 7 P.M.
a Catholic service will be held. The family requests in lieu of flowers, please consider making a
donation to Tom’s favorite charity, The Wounded Warriors Project.
