With great sorrow and bittersweet gratitude, we announce the passing of our brave, beautiful, adventurous, and loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Shirley Garee, age 84. She was born to Floyd and Ethel DeRossett on April 26, 1938, in Clinchco, VA. She transitioned to her eternal life in April of 2023.

Shirley had a creative flare in all her endeavors. She loved interior design, floral design, jewelry making, and teaching oil painting. She loved to dance with her family to her favorite, Elvis Presley. Our mother was nothing short of a true warrior, overcoming every obstacle that life threw her way. Shirley had a strength that was unwavering that will carry the next generations forward.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Cheryl Sorrell, Amber Wilcox, Floyd Wilcox, Melody Wilcox, and James (Meredith) Garee; her grandchildren, Kenny, Danny, Lacy, Lindsey, Melissa, Denver, Mandi, Carrie, Renee, Colt, Jessiah, and Casandra. She leaves behind 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her mother; her father; her brother, Norman DeRossett; and her loving husband, Jack Garee.

A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
