Obituary for Roger Kenneth Myers

Roger K Myers, 96, passed away on Monday April 26th at Lutheran Life Village in Kendallville. Roger was born in Coldwater, Ohio on November 16th 1924. After graduating from Coldwater High School he entered the US Army Aircorp to serve in WWII along with his 3 brothers and a brother-in-law. After being honorably discharged he attended International Business College where he met his wife to be, Vonola Barkley, whom he married on October 16th 1949. They enjoyed 66 years together. Roger was the station manager for Delta Airlines for 43 years, retiring in 1990. Roger was a longtime active member of Nine Mile United Methodist Church, he served on the SW Allen County School Board for 16 years, was the curator of the Greater Fort Wayne Aviation Museum, he was a member of numerous aviation based organizations; the OX5 Club, Air Force Association, and the War Birds. Roger organized annual bus trips to the Dayton Airforce Museum and was able to take an Honor Flight. Roger was a Gideon. Roger was the recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash Award.He also co-authored "Fort Wayne Aviation, Baer Field and Beyond". Roger's 3 passions in life were his family, his relationship with God, and aviation. He is survived by his sons, Larry (Cheryl) of Lombard, IL, Dale of Andover MA, and Carl (Cheri) of Avilla, IN; 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife Vonola, and grand daughter Jamie Myers. Funeral service for Roger will take place at Nine Mile United Methodist Church (6303 Winters Road Fort Wayne) on Friday May 7th at 11 am with calling 1 hour prior. Visitation will be on Thursday May 6th at FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services (6557 N Clinton St) from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials in Roger’s honor may be made to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home.
