Obituary for Robert Edward "Bob" Measley Sr.

Robert Edward Measley Sr., 95, died peacefully at home on October 25, 2022 in Fort Wayne after a short illness. He was surrounded by his family and under the care of ProMedica Home Hospice. Known as “Bob" by all, he was born in South Jersey and grew up on a peach and apple farm in Hammonton, NJ. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII, serving on a minesweeper in the South Pacific. After the war, he worked for the DuPont Co. in Deptford, NJ. He was soon promoted to salesman, which became his life’s profession and passion. In 1953, he married the love of his life, Helenjane DeGothseir, whom he had met 5 years earlier at a dance. As a salesman, he travelled and settled in the Midwest States, where all 3 of his children were born and raised. Later in the 1970’s, they moved to Massachusetts to start a sewing and fabric store, which was Helenjane’s dream. During that time, they enjoyed traveling to Europe, the Caribbean, Aruba and the Far East. He continued to work in sales and learned the new business with Helenjane, eventually retiring from both at age 70. They moved to Manahawkin, NJ, near Long Beach Island where they had travelled every year to the family beach house in Ship Bottom, NJ. The last five years of his life were spent in Fort Wayne, near his daughter, Jana and son Jeff. He enjoyed painting with watercolor, anything to do with cars, watching the Celtics and the Phillies, going to the beach, listening to big band and country music, and yodeling. He is survived by his wife, Helenjane, 92, his children, Robert Edward (Eileen) Measley, Jr., Jana (Julie) Measley, Jeffrey (Heidi) Measley; grandchildren, Ian Measley and Kyle Measley.
