Rita Bernice Bubb (née Mraz) (July 10, 1942 - June 25, 2023) lived a full life surrounded by family and friends in Fort Wayne, IN. Rita was born in Elyria, OH, and grew up in Grafton, OH, where she attended Elyria Catholic High School. Rita won the Zahars scholarship and used it to attend the M.B. Johnson School of Nursing. She received her BS in Nursing at St Francis of Joliet. Rita met the love of her life, David Doyle Bubb, in the Brentwood neighborhood of Grafton at the local beach when they were both in high school. When she first heard his name was Bubb, she could not help but laugh. She never would have guessed then that she would soon take his name! Dave and Rita married in Grafton at the Immaculate Conception Church on September 7, 1964. They lived in Cleveland while Dave worked on his master’s degree at Case Institute of Technology and relocated to Fort Wayne, IN, in 1965. Dave & Rita remained happily wed in Fort Wayne, IN, for 58 years. Rita had a long and rewarding career in nursing at University Hospital (Cleveland, OH), Lutheran Hospital (IN), Dr. Link’s office (IN), and finished at Parkview Memorial Hospital (IN). As a nurse, she worked in psychiatry/substance rehab, newborn nursery, MRI, and hospice (her most rewarding position). Rita RN taught her children compassion, empathy, and the power of healing hands. Rita’s sisters are nurses, and so is her second daughter, and now two grandsons have followed in her footsteps. Rita enjoyed traveling around the country and internationally to visit family and friends, her sense of adventure for food and cultural experiences was unmatched. Long family car rides were broken up by Rita reading aloud from the latest Reader’s Digest, telling family tales, or making up stories to entertain the little ones. Her wry wit was unforgettable, she was a dear friend to many. Rita loved reading, baking, playing bridge, bowling, swimming, and traveling. She survived lung cancer in 2000. Rita was active in the American Red Cross, Smoke Free Indiana, the Psi Iota Xi Sorority (Eta Rho Chapter), Relay For Life walks, the Reye’s Syndrome Foundation, and was a board member and past president of the Blackhawk Neighborhood Association. Rita was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Fort Wayne. Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Anna Dolores (née Duffy) Mraz, her brother Richard Mraz Jr, and sister Janice Mraz. Rita is survived by her loving husband, David Doyle Bubb; her children Mary Yeager (Fayetteville, GA), David (Monica) Bubb Jr (Holly Springs, NC), Janet (Pat) Wise (Fort Wayne, IN), and Valerie (Mark) Fenwick (Mountain View, CA); sisters Earlenne (David) Friend (Ione, CA) and Deborah (Charles) Cross (Lakeland, FL). She leaves 11 beloved grandchildren: Christiana, Ashton, Valen, Chay, and Avany Yeager; Shannon and Tyler Bubb; P. Kevin, Bradley, Jason, and Ryan Wise.
