Ricardo “Tony” Batista Araujo, 63, of Fort Wayne, IN, by way of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Queens, New York passed away on December 22, 2020. He was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on May 24, 1957, son of the late Severino and Oliveira “Edith” Araujo.
Tony loved to have a good time with his friends and family. He was a loyal friend and passionate about everything he did; he worked hard, he played hard, and he loved even harder. His love was unconditional. Tony was fortunate enough to live many lives in his short time here, which made him a great person to relate to and learn from. His ability to tell a story made him magnetic, but his ability to listen made him loved.
Tony was a great father and an amazing Vovô (grandparent). He loved spending time with his children, grandkids, and his sister Val. He loved spending time in Miami, the beach, cooking Sunday meals, dancing, singing opera and Sinatra, raising dogs, driving, flying kites, and kicking back with his kids. He was always open to discussing the issues with New York style pizza being made anywhere but New York. Tony stayed extremely active and brought that type of energy in his parenting and grandparenting.
Tony taught us that we don’t have a lot of time on this earth and we’re all just passing through. Because of this, one must live life on their own terms. With Dad’s job, he traveled each and every highway, but much more than this, he did it his way.
Tony is survived by his three sons, Shane (Erinn) Araujo, Logan Araujo, and Max (Kierstynn) Araujo; two daughters, Lindsey Araujo and Sloan Araujo; three grandchildren, August, Sevie, and Raines Araujo; sister, Valeria Anderson, 2 nieces, Candice and Christine Anderson; as well as many lifelong friends from both the old neighborhood in Queens and Fort Wayne.
A private celebration of life gathering for the family will be held at a later date in Miami. In lieu of flowers please donate to Easter Seals ARC of Northeast Indiana or Habitat for Humanity of Greater Fort Wayne.
