Philip Rizzo Sr, 96, passed away peacefully at his home on December 9, 2020. Philip was especially proud of his service as a Veteran of WWII. He served in the Army's 159th Infantry 106th Division which received the EAME Theater Ribbon w/ 3 Bronze Stars. Philip was a barber at Nick's Barber Shop his whole life and well into his eighties still cut hair for Veteran's only. He wore his WWII hat proudly everyday in his later years. Philip loved and adored his children and was so proud of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He made us laugh and smile every day and he truly appreciated our love and care for him. Philip and his wife, Helen of 59 years traveled the world until her passing in 2002. He always especially enjoyed Las Vegas and continued visiting until the last couple of years. A sweet and loving man who was adored by many is survived by his children, Gloria (Marland) Myers, Barbara (Gary) Baus, Nicholas (Deborah) Rizzo, Elaine (George) Petersen, Philip Rizzo Jr., and Barry Rizzo; brother, Samuel (Mary) Rizzo; and sisters, Carmella Leto and Mary Tyler. Due to COVID-19 a private family service will be held with burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Shepherd's House. To sign the online guestbook, go to

Thoughts and prayers go out to Phil’s family. We were neighbors and close friends with the Rizzo family. I still remember how proud Nick and Annie were of their son’s military service and how they proudly display the star in their front window indicating a son in the service. Last time I saw Phil was in Hills market in Waynedale. He told me it was the only place in town to get good Italian sausage. Rest In Peace Phil. Frances Volante and family. Charlie Volante and family.

I met Mr. Rizzo at the Ft. Wayne terminal a few years ago while awaiting our flights to Florida. I struck up a conversation there and asked to sit next to Mr. Rizzo on the flight down. He was engaging with his and Helen's Vegas stories with the Rat Pack and their shows. He talked very little about his service in Europe, but what he told me was powerful coming from one of our nations finest. Mr. Rizzo introduced me after our flight to his Daughter and Son n law and they thanked me for sharing time with Dad on the way down, if they only knew it was I who should have been thanking them for the opportunity to meet such an incredible man. I talked about him to whom would ever listen and thought about my friend often. Rest in peace my Greatest Generation friend.
