Obituary for Peter Alden Kobe Sr.

Peter A. Kobe, Sr., age 80, died on March 14, 2023. Born in Gary, Indiana, in 1942 to the late Peter and Florence Kobe, he is survived by his siblings Kathy (Len) Elliott of California and Mark (Kathy) Kobe of Tennessee. After 59 years of marriage, he is survived by his loving wife Carol, and their three children Lisa (Scott) Qualls of Wolcottville, Peter (Heather) Kobe of Fort Wayne, and Andrew (J.J.) Kobe of Indianapolis, and honorary daughter Becky Zulager of Fort Wayne. Peter has 13 wonderful grandchildren: Katie, A.J., Presley, Parker, Porter, Luci, Sophie, Ella, Nia, Yana and Galia (Jordan), and Katya. Peter touched many lives through his time teaching and leading congregations in worship. After graduating from Watervliet High School in Watervliet, Michigan, Peter attended Taylor University and Ball State University where he received a Master of Arts. From a young age, Peter loved music and began singing and leading music in church. His great influence upon students began with him teaching junior high school in Marion, Indiana, and it continued in schools and colleges in California and Oregon. Many in Fort Wayne, Indiana, know Peter from his time at Blackhawk Baptist Church. Each year, thousands of people attended the Living Christmas Tree and Patriotic Panaroma. He was a beloved Minister of Music at Blackhawk Ministries and North Park Community Church. He was active until the end—caring for his immaculate lawn and doing home improvements. He was a lifelong athlete as a star player on his high school football and basketball teams, as a clutch pitcher in softball, as a scratch golfer, and as a fierce pickleball player. Peter began following Jesus Christ as his Savior at 8 years old, and he led countless people in worship to his King in services and concerts at colleges and churches. He is now enjoying the presence of God and a worship service beyond his grandest dreams.
