Obituary

Nancy Jean (Adamson) Heare Mathison was born on January 24, 1943 and passed away on February 25, 2021 surrounded by her children. She is survived by 7 siblings – John (Luana) Cunningham, Charles “Chuck” (Willene) Cunningham, Sarah “Susie” Wells, Barbara “Bobby” (Daryl) Clark, Annie Smith, Lester “Skip” (Thelma) Cunningham, and Terry (Steve Young) Cunningham; 8 children – Jay (Peter Newcomb) Heare, Jean Freels, Navette (Jerry) McClure, John (Cheri) Heare, Kenneth (Shannon Baughman) Heare, Melanie (Kevin) Fields, Ginger (Charles Stewart) Mathison, and Colleen (James) Douglas; 57 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents - George Adamson and Erma and Orville Cunningham; siblings William “Billy” Stover, Florence “Babe” Forest, Patsy “Patty” Stevens, Richard “Dick” Cunningham; and grandchildren Shon Breland, Matthew Heare, and Gerald Heare.

Nancy loved NASCAR (go, Matt Kenseth!), the LA Dodgers and Lakers, paint by number kits, crocheting, reading, puzzles, crossword puzzles, volunteering at the St. John Lutheran Church’s garage sale and apple pie sale, and collecting angels. She also loved shopping out of catalogs. If I listed them all, you might still be reading this tomorrow! Oh, and let’s not forget collecting plastic containers…lots and lots of plastic containers for leftovers at family gatherings.

Even more than these things, Nancy loved her family. The family she was born into, the family she birthed, the family she adopted, and the myriad of people brought into her life that she considered part of her family. She loved spending time with all her children - at their homes or on vacation or just out to eat. She especially loved spending time at the lake. Giving her things away to someone in need, providing help whenever she could, listening, hugging, kissing, telling people that she loved them – these were all acts of love that she did freely and often.

A funeral service will be held place at St. John Lutheran Church, 729 West Washington Boulevard, Fort Wayne, IN on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at 3 PM with visitation from 2 PM – 3 PM. The service will be live streamed on the St. John Lutheran Church Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/stjohnluthfw.

Memorials can be sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Donations can also be given online at http://bit.ly/3kwGKsP.

My condolences to children of Nancy. She had an amazing heart and I was so happy to have gotten to know her through the years. She sent me words of encouragement when my husband passed away. She treated my daughter like her own and just an all around wonderful lady. She will be missed.
