Obituary for Milka Tamy Skembos (Vangov)

Milka Tamy Skembos, passed away on Monday August 8th, 2022. She was born in the Village of Porodin, in the country of Bitola, in the Republic of Yugoslavia, Macedonia. Milka immigrated at the age of 19, with her sister to Dearborn, Mi. to be with her father on August 14th, 1954, following the sudden death of her mother. Milka loved cooking and was the absolute best at making the traditional Pita. She loved crocheting and won first prize at the Indiana State Fair for a baby blanket she created. She always made sure all brides had the traditional handkerchief with delicate lace she created and that all babies had a special baby blanket. Milka loved to dance traditional Macedonian and Greek dances with her husband and her family with such energy and grace. No one could keep up with her. She loved dancing the jitter bug with her husband. Milka also loved singing in the church choir and had the most beautiful vertebra voice in the church choir. What she loved most of all was having her children home for family get togethers when she would make us all stop and thank God, as she would clasp her hands together, and say “I am SO happy”. Milka worked at Cohan and Sons and then retired from Benett in New Haven as a seamstress.
Milka is survived by her husband of 66 years, Kosmas Pereklis Skembos who always called her Agape (love); daughter, Olga (Gerald) Roszkowski; Son, Vasil (Susan) Skembos; daughter, Nancy Black Hildebrand; grandchildren, John (Rachel) Roszkowski, Lindsey (Eric) Green, Christie (Tyler) Kleinschmidt, Paige Roszkowski (engaged to Garrett Sutton), Billy, Stephanie, and Thomas Skembos, Jessica Black (engaged to Tobias Lang), Michael (Claire) Black, Dirk Hildebrand; great grandchildren, Laiken, Addy Green, and Ryker Roszkowski. She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Olga Vangov and sister Ilanka Simoff.
Funeral service will be on Thursday August 11th at 11:00 am with visitation 1 hour prior at St Nicholas Eastern Orthodox Cathedral (3535 Crescent Ave. Fort Wayne) . Visitation also on Wednesday from 3-5 and 6-8 pm also at church with entry prayers at 1:45pm and Trisagion prayers at 7pm. Burial will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 6750 Covington Rd. Preferred memorials in Milka’s honor may be made to St Nicholas Eastern Orthodox Cathedral.
