Obituary for Melvin Ray Simpson

On November 18, 2022 our father, Melvin Ray Simpson, surrounded by his family transitioned to heaven above. Melvin was born to Vernon and Josephine Simpson on February 19, 1943. Mel was raised in Geauga County, Ohio along with his older brother Ray (Joanne Farrow) and younger sister Linda (Tracy Hull). Our father attended Chagrin Falls High school where he met the love of his life, Shirley Reisinger. As high school sweethearts Mel and Shirley graduated together in the class of 1961. Mel enlisted in the United States Air Force right after graduation. He was proud to have served our country at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri. It was while serving in the Air Force he married Shirley in 1963. During his service years, Dad formed life long friendships with several other AF pals and their wives. After completing his enlistment, he moved into civilian employment as an electrical engineer. As a pioneer in the field of hydraulics engineering, he held a patent and occasionally taught classes at a local college. Mel always liked to stay busy. After retirement he worked at a local golf course maintaining their equipment.
Melvin was the most amazing and loving father to his three children and their spouses, who he loved as his own, Debbie (Mike McConnell), Ron (Diane Studebaker) and Dan (Kelly Jones). Dad’s greatest joy came from spending time with and teaching his children. He taught each of us life skills, honesty, kindness and most of all compassion.
Mel was a man of many talents and hobbies. He loved wood working, reading, mowing, watching the birds, fishing, camping and travel. But most of all he loved spending time with his grandsons, Landon & Brady.
Per dad’s request we will be having a celebration of life in the Spring. If you would like to be included in his celebration please email, mcconnell46788@frontier.com for details.
In lieu of flowers or a memorial, we ask that you place a bird feeder at your home or gather with your family for a special dinner together. Family and the outdoors were so important to dad.
Dad, until we are all together again, we love you and cherish our memories. XXOO
