Obituary for Lillian Magnolia Fowlkes (DeYampert)

Lillian DeYampert Fowlkes, sweetly known as “Sis” to her grandchildren, humorously known as "Old G.o.a.t".  Lillian DeYampert Fowlkes was born November 18, 1930, to Lillian Nabors DeYampert and Speed DeYampert. Sis was a twin who proceeded her in death and the youngest of her 2 brothers William and Elbert who also proceeded her in death.  Lillian confessed her life to Christ at an early age and took fellowship at Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Marion AL. Lillian was joined in holy matrimony to Eugene Fowlkes in 1952 where they transitioned from Alabama to Fort Wayne, Ind.  To this Union 4 children were born. Lillian and Eugene raised a special needs son Elston Clark Fowlkes who proceeded them in death. Eugene's health drastically began to decline, Lillian made the noble choice to take early retirement to care for her husband, until his final day of life in 1997. Lillian and Eugene joined Friendship Baptist Church in 1952 under the leadership of Rev. Phillip Love Sr. Lillian served under many ministries but her fondest was the cooking ministry.  She was well known for her Macaroni and cheese, 7up cake and her famous sweet potato pie. Historical fact, Lillian attended Lincoln High School, in Marion AL where she was a classmate of the late Coretta Scott King. Lillian was a faithful employee of State School for 40 plus years, she was a head nutritional cook and mentor to the younger woman. (Sis) favorite past times were watching news, she loved to watch game shows especially Steve Harvey, crossword puzzles, looking outside to nose watch her neighbors, making fun of folks, and calling her grandchildren to harass them. She was especially proud to watch her grandson being drafted to the NFL, unfortunately she will not be able to attend the game  but spiritually, she will have the best seat in Lucas Oil Stadium. On August 25th, 2023, at 11:16 am the Lord answered her plea and called her to her final resting place. She leaves to cherish her fond memories 2 daughters Barbara (Phillip) Anderson, Serena Fowlkes. 1 son Oliver Fowlkes. 1 sister- in-law Mozell Fowlkes of Marion AL. 9 grandchildren 12 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; 6 nieces and nephews of the DeYamperts   A host of relatives of Nabors,  DeYamperts and Fowlkes family members. 1 special son Tracey Foster 2 special niece's Jackie Bell and Denise Fowlkes. And a loving host of friends.

Funeral services will take place on Friday, September 8th, 2023 at 11:00 am with calling 1 hour prior, calling will also take place on Thursday, September 7th, 2023 from 5-8 pm, all at FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 6557 N. Clinton St.
