Obituary for Lawrence Anthony "Larry" Petrie

Lawrence Anthony “Larry” Petrie, 74, of Fort Wayne, Indiana died peacefully on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at his home in the company of his family. He was born on July 29, 1948 in Garrett, Indiana, to the late Joseph A. and Helen M. (Hackel) Petrie. After graduating from South Side High School, Larry attended IPFW. He worked at the U.S. Post Office and Classic Trophies for five years. He became a Premium Insurance Auditor and did loss control and safely inspections, retiring in 2017. His passion, beginning when he was 14, was bowling and his accomplishments included many titles and awards as one of the top bowlers in Fort Wayne for a number of years, winning 7 city titles, first bowler to ever bowl 300 at Brunswick Lanes, bowled over 50 “700” series, 6 “300 games, bowled 35 years in the USBC and inducted into the Fort Wayne Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2002. He also played softball with his brother Robert for over 40 years in many leagues and tournaments. Larry is survived by brothers, Robert (Mary) Petrie and John (Cheryl) Petrie, sister Susan (Dan) Davis and many nieces and nephews as well as extended family in Minnesota. Additionally, he was preceded in death by his Romanian grandfather, Peter Petrie; parents, Joseph and Helen Petrie, sister Pamela Ann (Larry) Kerns, brothers, Jack (infant) Tanberg, James Richard (Sherry) Tanberg. Funeral Service for Larry will take place at St Nicholas Cathedral,3535 crescent Ave. on Wednesday October 12th at 11:00 am with calling 1 hour prior and Entry Prayers at 9:30am. Calling is also on Tuesday Oct. 11th at FairHaven Funeral Home, 6557 N Clinton St, from 4-7pm. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. Preferred memorials may be directed to the scholarship fund of Fort Wayne Metro Bowling Association"
