Obituary for Laura Lynn Corya (Florine)

Laura Corya, 71, was granted her angel wings on January 19, 2019. Her final earthly days were spent at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Streator, IL to Wes and Aileen Florine on December 25, 1947, but raised in Milwaukee, WI with her siblings Sharon Saron (Ray), Alice Stettler (Hubert) and Wes Florine and her Grandfather “Papa Birt”. Laura proudly attended University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire and completed her degree at Indiana Purdue FW. Laura’s life was exemplified by wanting to care for others incapable of caring for themselves. In her early years, she spent a number of years working with the deaf and multiply challenged residents of the State Hospital. But over the past 25 years Laura had devoted her time and talents in a philanthropic way. From her work with aiding refugees transitioning into our area, assisting in fundraising events for the Woodburn Christian Children’s Home, Cancer Services, ACSPCA and many others who reached out for her help. She served 12 years on the Board serving as the fundraising director for the Community Humane Shelter of Steuben County where she brought home Emmett and Auggie, two homeless pit bulls to add to her family. Her most fervent effort was to serve and assist the Wounded Soldiers from the area that have served our country so proudly. She is survived by her husband, Jim Corya; daughter, Kim Corya; son, Matt (Nina) Corya; grandchildren, Grace, Caroline, Molly, and Maddox; her siblings; and many nieces and nephews.
