Kaitlin Ann Curran, 26, of Fort Wayne, IN passed away suddenly, tragically and unexpectedly in a house fire on Monday, December 14, 2020 at her home, with her fur kids, Sir Duke Moosington and his skinny shadow Sasha Renee, by her side. Both, of whom, were rescues. Both had separation anxiety. Both adored and protected her at all costs. They needed her as much as she needed them. She is survived by her cherished daughter, Scarlet Curran of Fort Wayne; her mother, Margaret Escobedo, of Whiting; her brother, John Conrad, of Gary; and her grandfather, John Kuss of Whiting. She is predeceased by her father, Ronald Curran; her grandmother, Marie Kuss; and grandparents, James and Carole Curran.
Kaitlin was born in Crown Point, Indiana on July 16, 1994 to the late Ronald Curran and Margaret Escobedo. She spent her educational years at Whiting High School and Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana where she was on the Dean’s list. In 2013, she welcomed her precious, beautiful daughter, Scarlet Curran, into the world. Scarlet was the most important part of her life. Kaitlin had recently started a new job at USSI Ultra Electronics and was looking forward to a promising future.
She was an extremely devoted, dedicated and determined mother. She worked hard to give her little girl the absolute best she could. Every move she made and every choice she made, she did so with Scarlet as her top priority and in mind. She had a vast variety of interests from crocheting gifts for family and friends and also for herself and her little girl. Scott Hopewell gave her a china cabinet. Did she keep her best china in it? No she did not! She used it for her yarn and it thrilled her because it could all be easily seen, clean and readily available for the next “work in progress”. She was able to stand on her own two feet, making her own minor home repairs. She was a little grease monkey who was not afraid to get under the hoods of her vehicles…and fix them all on her own! There were many along the way and she named every one of them from Riceball, to Derphy, Murphy, Fred, Jizzaball, Maria, Rustang, Chrissy and her beloved Stella. Stella was the ruler of the roost and the one closest to her heart. She was her all white 1988 stock Fiero that Kaitlin again, worked on with her own little hands. She restored and entered her into car shows with the Midwest Fiero Club. Kaitlin surrounded her home with cherished items along the way, each with its own special exciting story. She either kept them on display in an area of prominence in her home or wore them with pride. This included her Grandma Curran’s crockpot, her Grandma Kuss’s can opener and canister set, her Grandma Curran and her mother’s kitchen utensil holder, her family friend Ernie Escobedo’s Iron Maiden T-shirt, along with a host of many other items that were precious and special to her. She was a lover of all critters. She was unique. She had the biggest, most beautiful, caring and giving heart. Ask anyone who knew her about her and the first words out of their mouths were always – “She was so sweet.” She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those knew her.
