Obituary for Joan Botas (Olsen)

Joan Elizabeth Botas, 82, loving mother and grandmother, went Home to be with Jesus on April 27, 2023, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 1,1940, to Esther and Hilding Olsen. Joan left Chicago in 1958 to attend Fort Wayne Bible College where she met her husband, Marcos. Marcos and Joan were married on January 24, 1959, and moved to Hawaii. They had 3 sons born in Hawaii and moved back to Fort Wayne in 1970. Joan served the Lord all of her life. She had a beautiful alto voice and sang in church choirs, at veteran memorial services, and for the V.A. Hospital in Fort Wayne. She volunteered several hours at the VA Hospital and received the Congressional Excellence Award and other awards for her service. She has used her hands with leather tools and crochet since she was a young girl. She enjoyed demonstrating her craft at the Kendallville Apple Festival for over 25 years and Solomon Farm. Joan served on the Korean War Veterans Association Board and was involved with the Filipino American Society of Fort Wayne. She is a member of First Missionary Church and loved her church family dearly. Survived are her sons, Samuel M. (Shelley) Botas, David M. (Kristine) Botas both of Fort Wayne, and niece, Michele (James) Weikart of Warsaw; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Marcos Botas in 2008 and son, Jonathan M. Botas in 1988. CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICE will be at 4:00 P.M.on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at First Missionary Church, 701 W. Rudisill Blvd, with calling from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. Pastor Jon Swanson and Pastor Jordan Oloomi officiating. Arrangements by FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Fort Wayne, IN. Memorials may be made to First Missionary Church.
