I had the honor of working with Jerry for over thirty years. To many people he was viewed as a rigid “do it right or don’t do it” kind of guy. And he was ! Quality and attention to detail was his calling card. I once asked his opinion on a personal project and he paid me probably the biggest compliment of my career. In addition to offering to help with my project, he went on to explain that HE would be honored to help because “you were one of the good ones”. Referring to our engineering staff who I know he had respect for. Many years later I look back on that conversation and can still remember my emotion on hearing those words from him. He will be remembered by me always and will be greatly missed.

Jerry was amazing man!! I was so very lucky to have him as a boss at Shambaugh & Son for 11 years. Jerry had a huge heart and he was always there for anyone that ever needed anything. He was so intelligent and knew how to make everything look so professional in all he worked on. He made it fun to come to work. Jerry and I had so many talks and laughs over the 11 years I worked under him. I loved it when he talked about his past experiences, his thoughts on daily life, and the stories of himself and also I loved coming in on Mondays and he would tell me all the things Donna and himself did over the weekend including going to the casinos. Anyone who would talk or hang out with him would gain so much knowledge and if they need assistance, he would get them the help they needed, if they needed to learn something he always would sit and teach them until they understood it, if they needed support on life’s troubles , he made time to do all he could to help them. He was a teacher of drawing and getting the Fabrications done at Shambaugh & Son, on Life and everyday living- he was a man of KNOWLEDGE!!!! I can not put into words how important Jerry Toms was to me, but I do want everyone to know I am honored to have had him in my life and the 11 years I worked with him was a huge honor. And he will never be forgotten. My heart will be heavy for the family and friends and Donna, Stacy, and Brent on Monday. Love Cynthia (was Flennery now Dillion)
