Obituary for Jim Winans

James “Jim” Winans, 78, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Thursday January 20th 2022. Jim was born to the late Kenneth and Charlotte Winans (Huth), in Fort Wayne. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School (1961), International Business College, and Saint Francis College. Jim served in the Army during the Vietnam era. He retired after 38 years in finance at North American Van Lines/ SIRVA, and was currently employed part time at Pathway Community Church in their finance and security areas. He was involved in many organizations. Some that were nearest to his heart were: Real Men Read, being a Big Brother, and donating over 200 times in the Pheresis program a The American Red Cross. He was also a member of the Seniors Golf Guys at Eel River Golf Course. He got his first “Hole in One”, at Willow Ridge Golf Course on hole 14, in 2004. He was so proud of that achievement. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, super brother, and a faithful servant to Christ. He was a member of Pathway Community Church for 18 years and was so honored and humbled to have been part of their first 3 generations baptism in 2004. Jim loved to volunteer at PCC in whatever way he could to help others. He adored all of the kids that he taught over the years in Kid City, even helping out to paint the new church building when it was being completed. Jim also worked on the “frontline”, as a head usher, working Guest Services, and helping out serving coffee to those coming into service. He loved his “early” morning Men’s Bible Study guys on Wednesday mornings the most.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Cathi; daughter, Tina (Matt) Sheehan; sons, Jay Winans, and James II (Despi Mayes) Winans; 2 grandchildren, Devin Hubbard, and Xavier Sheehan; sister, Elaine (Jerry) Seifert; niece, Michelle (Dan Zinner) Seifert; and nephews, Rick (Deon) Seifert; David (DeVanna) Seifert, and Troy Townsend.
Even his unconditional love continues after death, as he was a tissue/ bone donor for burn and cancer patients.
