Obituary for James William Garman

James “Jim” William Garman, 51, of Fort Wayne hit light speed on his final journey to his heavenly home, May 4, 2023. Jim was a lifetime resident of Fort Wayne, Indiana and graduate of Snider High School and Ivy Tech Community College. Growing up he reveled in his role as eldest of three boys and taught many a mischievous lesson, from shooting out the neighbors’ windows, showering his brother with a bucket of matchbox cars or convincing “someone” to put their tongue on the electric train track.

Now queue some good ole 80’s rock and roll music and read on:

With his bright blue eyes and charming nature, Jim mastered the art of the first impression and stole a few hearts along the way. He married Heather (Alfano) Garman on April Fool’s Day in the year 2000 and together they share three amazing daughters: Lily Catherine, Mya Rose and Holly Noelle. Jim loved being a Dad and quickly became the best at embarrassing Dad jokes, loved taking the girls to the zoo and affectionally gave them each a special nickname: Lily “big girl”, Mya “nugget” and Holly “peanut”.

He loved animals and had many a best friend including his favorite miniature collies; Sam, Riggs and Mac (yes, named after Lethal Weapon) and most recently his favorite family guard dog, the great German Shepherd, Rambo.

Jim loved movies, including Star Wars, and although he passed unexpectedly, rest assured he snuck in a secret, loving message to each of you of “may the ‘fourth’ be with you” followed by the live long and prosper sign.

Jim was a man of many talents. He could listen to a piece of music and play it back on his trumpet or keyboard in record time. From a very young age, he could fix anything computer or electronic related. He loved the beach, was a generous helper, and could master any video game console. His favorite baseball team, the Detroit Tigers, provided many seasons of enjoyment. Jim loved steak, ice cream and a good ole coney dog from Coney Island especially on the fourth of July and Christmas Eve. Most recently, Jim and Holly were focused on their karate lessons and just passed their first test together.

Jim’s laugh, handsome style and quick wit will be missed by so many. He is survived by his mother and biggest cheerleader, Sally Garman of Marshall, MI; father, Tom Garman and step-mother, Mary Garman of Fort Wayne IN, his favorite “Garman girls”, Heather, Lily, Mya and Holly; brothers, Steve (Natalie) and Ben (Kristine); grandmother, Tracie Garman of New Jersey; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Brant and Ruth Doty, paternal grandfather William Thomas Garman; cousin, Tiffany Santiago; and aunt Josie Broene.
