Obituary for Geraldine "Gerrie" Watson
Geraldine "Gerrie" Helen Watson, 80, of Albion, Indiana and Seattle, Washington, died November 16, 2020 at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Gerrie was born July 24, 1940 to Helen and Henry Wojciechowski and was the oldest of five siblings. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles L. Watson. She is survived by her remaining family: a brother and three sisters, her six children and their spouses, thirteen grandchildren, her absolutely adored nineteen great grandchildren, and her sweet puppy, Winston.
She was a woman of many and sometimes unexpected talents. Most recently, she has been an avid stitcher of plastic canvas and even won a contest with one of her designs. She was always a wonderful cook, with Polish cuisine as her specialty. She loved to bake bread and was particularly proud of its lightness and softness. Some of her children’s fondest memories revolve around waiting for fresh bread to come out of the oven so that it could be eaten with jam. When she was younger, she was quite a daredevil. She raced stock cars and participated in the demolition derby—and won regularly in each event. That was quite an achievement, since women of her generation were not encouraged to engage in such activities.
She was a spirited woman with a bold, brassy sense of humor. Her daughters fondly dubbed her “the Brat Princess,” a title she held with a great deal of pride and glee. Laughter was very important to her, so she taught her children early and often to find humor in almost everything.
Gerrie was a devout Catholic. She loved her parish Holy Family of Seattle, WA and Blessed Sacrament of Albion, IN. Donations in her name may be made to Catholic Charities or Wounded Warrior Project.
