Obituary for George Alton Gecowets

GEORGE ALTON GECOWETS, 89, of Leo, Ind., passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022, of natural causes associated with Alzhei mer's. Born in Rockford, Ohio, on May 10, 1933, he was the son of Jerrold and Mary (Graham) Gecowets. He graduated from Angola High School, where he met and married his wife of 69 years, Shirley (Dixon) Gecowets. George served as a First Lieutenant in the Army before completing undergraduate studies at TriState University (now Trine) and graduate studies at Michigan State University. He had a long and fulfilling career at the Council of Logistics Management (now Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals). George is survived by his wife, Shirley; brothers, Robert "Bob" Gecowets and Richard "Dick" Gecowets; sister, Mary Jane (Gecowets) Hess; sons, Gregory (Janet) Gecowets and Kevin (Elaine) Gecowets; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Janet (Gecowets) Kemery, and Karen (Gecowets) Appleman. Service is 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, at FairHaven Funeral Home, 6557 N. Clinton St., Fort Wayne, with calling two hours prior beginning at noon. A private family burial to follow the service in Leo Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org.
