Errol “Gene” Bateman, 71, passed away Friday, February 4, 2022. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Gene was the son of the late Amos and Mildred Bateman. Gene attended Snider High School earning grades in the top 2% of the country. Gene served our country as a Vietnam Era Army veteran, having being stationed in Germany for some time. During his working years, Gene was a CAD Engineer for several companies. Gene had a passion for hockey. He loved playing and watching hockey, ice skating, and served as a hockey referee for years. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Brenda Bateman; step-mother, Zenda Bateman; children, Sarah (Jeff) Roe, Amy Bateman; grandchildren, Austin Marqueling, Ashley (Zack Matney) Marqueling; siblings, Belva Hatton, Glenn (Barb) Bateman, Lisa Fisher; niece, Cortney (Matt) Anderson; along with his beloved dogs, Chloe and Lola. Calling will be Saturday, February 12, 2022 from noon to 3 pm at FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 6557 N. Clinton Street. Memorials may be made to Visiting Nurse Hospice.
