Obituary for Edward William Doenges

Edward William Doenges, age 90, formerly of Fort Wayne, IN and Rotonda West, FL, died peacefully, Wednesday, Oct 5, 2022. Ed was, the younger of two children, born to Carl and Helma Doenges. Ed graduated from Concordia High School, Fort Wayne, and Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, with a degree in Pharmacy. After spending two years in the Army, stationed in Germany, Ed started his career in pharmacy working for Meinzen Pharmacy, where he met the love of his life, Virginia. They married April 6, 1957, in Fort Wayne. Ed later purchased Doenges Drugs and also worked for Haag Drugs, Chronister Pharmacy and Walgreens, in Fort Wayne. Ed was a devoted Christian and the church had been an important part of his life. He was a trained Stephen Minister, sung in the choir, performed in the dulcimer band, and other things. Ed and Ginny lived many years on Winona Lake, in northern Indiana, where he enjoyed sailing his Hobie Cat, and Rotonda West, FL, where he developed his artistic skills in oil painting. Ed also had earned his private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying. In addition to his wife Ginny, he leaves behind sons David (Amy), of Mishawaka, IN, Daniel (Karen) of Chaska, MN and Joseph (Mitzi), of St. Clair, MI. Ed leaves behind 7 grandsons and a great-granddaughter. His sister, Mary Louise, preceded him in death. Service is 11:00 am, Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Fairhaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 6557 N. Clinton St., with calling one hour prior. Burial will take place at Concordia Cemetery Gardens.
