Obituary for Charles David "Chuck" Wene

Charles “Chuck” David Wene, 60, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 22, 2022 surrounded by his family.

Born August 31, 1961 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Chuck was the son of the late Edward and Jeanette Wene. He graduated from Northrop High School in 1980 and became a journeyman tool maker, working for several companies throughout his career. In 2007, he and his wife, Cheryl, purchased Lopshire Flowers where Cheryl has been a florist for 42 years. They have owned and operated the shop together ever since, and it was something that brought Chuck great pride.

Chuck was never one to sit still. He was always looking for something to fix, whether broken or not. Chuck enjoyed riding his motorcycle, tinkering in his shop with his many machines and tools, hanging out with his friends at the Kendallville Airport, constructing model airplanes, and building his very own single-seat airplane. He once said his great love was all things aviation, but his priority was being a father. His children meant the world to him. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his sense of humor, strong opinions, and reluctance to follow the crowd. He was truly one-of-a-kind.

Surviving are his wife of 34 years and the love of his life, Cheryl Bruns Wene; children, Jeana (Glenn “Gus”) Springmann of Chicago, Illinois and Edward “Eddie” (Margaret “Maggie” Thiemann) Wene of Cincinnati, Ohio. Also surviving are his brother, Andrew (Carol) Wene, of Albion, Indiana, his mother and father-in law, Eugene and Ann Bruns, and a multitude of extended family members, including 17 brothers and sisters-in-law and 25 nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Open House will be hosted in Chuck’s honor on Thursday, August 11th at the Purdue University Alumni Center located at 1528 E. California Road in Fort Wayne, IN from 4-7pm, with a tribute to begin at 6pm.

Flowers are always appreciated and adored or also consider a donation in Chuck’s memory to Honor Flight Northeast Indiana (hfnei.org) or Stillwater Hospice (stillwater-hospice.org). FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services is handling arrangements.
