Obituary for Carmen Ruth Knight (Fairfield)

Carmen Ruth “Connie” (Fairfield) Knight,89, left this world at 6:10 AM on April 3, 2021 at Hope Hospice House in Fort Myers, Florida. Connie was gifted to Wallace, and Agnes Fairfield on July 10, 1931 in Crawfordsville, Indiana. She married James E. Knight on February 2nd in 1951. Carmen (Connie), and James (Jim) were man and wife for 59 years upon James' passing on May 13, 2010. They raised six children and lived in Fort Wayne the majority of their lives. Connie worked at Lincoln Life Insurance Company in Fort Wayne until 1980 when the family moved to Florida. She was an admitting office supervisor for Lee Memorial Hospital until her return to Fort Wayne around the year 2000. In her later years she attended Crossroads Church, and volunteered at various Christian organizations throughout Fort Wayne. Connie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and spent her life competing with McDonald’s on who could feed the most people. You never left her house hungry. Surviving are daughters, Cynthia K. Showalter (Don), Melinda S. Hampton (Michael), son, Steven R. Knight, and daughter, Stephanie J. Knight. Also surviving are 11 of Connie’s 13 grandchildren, Heather C. Bowlin (Greg), Nicole M. Gillig, Alicia A. Franken, Samantha J. Knight, Ashlee L. Howenstine (Austin), Natalie R. Vasta, Paige N. Potter, Nicholas S. Burton, Cory J. Lamp, Austin J. Ward, and Kylie M. Burton, who collectively gave Connie 18 great-grandchildren, namely: Alex, Evan, Libbie, Violet, Owen, Jude, Gabrielle, Hadlee, Melanie, A.J., Hunter, Jaxon, Leila, Ashton, Braxton, Riley, Nina, and Jaylen. Connie was preceded in death by her husband James E. Knight (84), sister, Cora S. Lamb (53), eldest son, James R. Knight (66), daughter-in-law, Rebecca J. Knight (63), daughter, Sandra L. Potter (58), grandsons, Robert S. Potter (39), and M. Eli Hampton (23). A Celebration of Life Service will be 6 pm, Saturday, April 10, 2021 at FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 6557 N. Clinton Street, with calling from 4 pm until the service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the organization of your choice, in Connie's memory.
