Obituary for Alan D. Bennington

Alan D. Bennington, 82, died on Friday, June 3, 2022 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Fort Wayne. Alan was born in Fort Wayne on March 29, 1940 to the late Dale and Ruth Bennington. He retired from International Harvester Co. after 30 years of service where he was very active in the United Auto Workers Union as a Union Steward. He served as past president of the Allen County Young Republican Club. Alan was an avid bowler throughout his entire adult life. He bowled several “300” games ands was well known in Fort Wayne bowling circles. After retiring, Alan became quite the cook, guiding his grandchildren in the fine points of cooking, experimenting with new recipes. Alan and Mary enjoyed dining out quite often. He was an avid car buff and was owner and operator of “Fort Wayne Raceway” in the 1960’s. Surviving are his beloved wife and best friend of 63 years, Mary Martha (Miller) Bennington; son, Michael Alan (Michele) Bennington; daughters, Sherry Lynn (Brad) Hanway, Sheila Joyce; brothers, Bryan Bennington, Mark (Cindy) Bennington; sister, April Bennington; grandchildren, Heather, special angel here on earth, and Jenae, alive and doing quite well and still the apple of her grandpa’s eye; along with sister and brother in laws, and nieces and nephews. Alan was preceded in death by his grandson, Blake Bennington; and son in law, Tim Joyce. A special thank you to Brenda Miller and David Bacon who went over and above in helping Mary and Al.
